The Dolores Huerta Labor Institute is a program which encourages and assists with the development of labor education and labor studies classes district-wide. Named for the legendary United Farm workers co-founder, the “Huerta Institute” works with and supports faculty on Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) campuses in developing courses on a broad range of labor focused topics including but not limited to, the American Labor Movement, the changing workplace, labor market economics, political and social movements, globalization, the history of the working class in the United States and California, and the role of unions in politics and culture. In addition, the Huerta Institute develops district wide programs such as lecture and film series and community workshops as well as opportunities for students to work on labor-related projects with Los Angeles based unions. (The Institute is funded, in part, by ponsorships from various labor organizations). This is a district wide position within LACCD’s 9 college, publicly-funded system serving 130,000 students in Los Angeles County.


Duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Coordination with faculty in the development of labor- themed curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Collection, categorization, preliminary assessment and dissemination of labor-related instructional materials.
  • Assistance in the planning, implementation, coordination, evaluation and promotion of the institute’s programs and related professional development activities.
  • Oversight of the Dolores Huerta Labor Institute internship program, including Student Learning
  • Outcome assessment, program review, and development of the application and evaluation process with the sponsoring institution.
  • Representation of the Dolores Huerta Labor Institute at college, district meetings and in the labor movement.
  • Coordination of the Dolores Huerta Labor Institute Advisory Committee.


Candidates must be qualified to teach at least one subject offered at the colleges within the Los Angeles Community College District. • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Current annual salary range is $$62,184-$93,996 (includes monthly responsibility differential of $422). Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents, life insurance, and retirement program.
